How To Promote Your Affiliate
Marketing Programs

Affiliate marketing can be a great way to make some
residual income online. If you use your affiliate
marketing properly, you can actually make a fair
amount of money. But you have to market your affiliate
programs and utilize the Internet to its fullest
potential, otherwise your affiliate marketing will be
a bigger waste of time than raking leaves in the fall.
Here are some tips to help you take advantage of the
Internet when you’re affiliate marketing.

START AFFILIATE MARKETING WITH YOUR
OWN WEBSITE

The obvious starting place for an affiliate marketing
campaign is your own personal website. Whether this is
a blog, an online portfolio or an online business,
affiliate marketing can make your site a bit more
profitable. As long as you have some site traffic,
affiliate marketing can work on just about any kind of
site that you have. When you’re choosing affiliate
programs for your site, do your best to make sure that
they correlate to your content, or try to skew the
link names so that they do, and make sure that the
links that relate most closely to your content appear
first. The object is to make sure that people go to
the links, so make them as enticing as possible.

FIND MESSAGE BOARDS FOR YOUR
AFFILIATE MARKETING

If you can, find message boards to post your affiliate
marketing links on that, again, relate in some way to
the link. If you can, include links both at the end of
message board posts and in the content. Gear your
posts to the link, so that they seem like a natural
extension of your topic. Before you start posting on
all kinds of message boards though, make sure that the
board allows affiliate programs in posts. If they
don’t, then your post will be deleted, and if you
break these rules often enough, you might be blocked
from posting again on that or other message boards,
especially if you are operating in a specific niche.
Not only that, but people are less likely to click on
links on a message board that frowns on affiliate
marketing.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE POWER OF
CHAT ROOMS

Chat rooms are a great way to get in touch with a
number of people who already spend a lot of time on
the Internet. Many chat rooms allow you to create a
guest user profile or a one time only user. You can go
in and promote your affiliate programs and convince
people to visit the links in real time. This gives you
the benefit of being able to respond to any questions
or hesitations people might have immediately. You can
really act as a salesperson, much more so than if you
were to simply paste an affiliate program on a website
somewhere.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PYRAMID STRUCTURE
OF SOME AFFILIATE PROGRAMS

Many affiliate programs will give you partial profits
of people that you sign up to become affiliate
marketers. This can often be more profitable than
using your own actual links, if you’re good at getting
in touch with people. If you dedicate most of your
affiliate marketing time to finding other marketers,
then you can establish an organization that functions
without a lot of input from you, leaving you time to
grow your base instead of trying to find places to
post your links. Of course, you should not neglect to
work on your tier of the organization, both to make
sure that you get some income from yourself, and out
of respect for the person who brought you into the
organization.

How To Create A Successful Home Business

The Internet is full of ways to create a foolproof
home business that makes you rich quickly and easily.
I’m here to tell you that these offers are mere
fallacies. There is no home business that is quick and
easy and will instantly triple your income. Home
businesses are hard work and require time, dedication
and perseverance. But they are possible, and have the
potential of making you a lot of money and keeping you
at home where you belong.

While I can’t and won’t tell you which home business
will work for you, I can give you suggestions for how
to make your home business work.

DEDICATE YOURSELF TO YOUR HOME BUSINESS

Your devotion to your home business venture can never
waver. It must come before all other financial
opportunities. This is not to say that you have to
quit your job in order to launch a home business. That
would be a bad idea, at least until your home business
is providing a steady stream of income. However, leave
your job at work. Your home is the place for your home
business, and you should try to keep your home free of
other financial distractions.

Work on your home business whenever you possibly can.
Dedicate every free moment you have to advancing your
business. Spend time each and every day, including
holidays, to furthering your home business, even if
you just write down an idea or make a single contact.
If you can meet one contact every day, then by the end
of your first year, you’ll have 365. Dedicate yourself
to your home business and your chances of success will
improve drastically.

ESTABLISH GOALS AND A PLAN BEFORE YOU
START A HOME BUSINESS

Starting a home business without a plan is like trying
to sail from New York to India without a compass, map,
or the stars. You might get there, but it would only
be a matter of dumb luck. Never be content to rely on
Luck. Think about your home business, what you want to
achieve with it, and where you want it to be 5, 10, 15
years down the road. Establish goals, timelines, and
marketing plans before you begin anything. These will
be the blueprints that you use to build your home
business.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EVERY OPPORTUNITY

While you need to have a well-thought out plan before
you begin a home business, do not be afraid to deviate
from it if an unforeseen opportunity pops up. You
should never rely on Luck, bet never ignore Luck when
she is offering you her hand. Businesses are built on
taking advantage of opportunities. Don’t be afraid to
throw those blueprints that you made to the wind if
something better should come along. Home businesses
have to be flexible, because we live in an
ever-changing world.

REMEMBER YOUR FAMILY

If you don’t have a family, don’t neglect your
friends. You can’t be successful without support from
other people. If you husband or wife is not behind you
and your home business, then your chances of success
plummet. You will be distracted by their anger and
hurt feelings, and will not be able to dedicate your
free time to your home business, because you will be
thinking about your family. You have to come out of
the working world eventually, and when you do, you
need to have someone there to be your companion. Not
only that, but your friends and family can be useful
allies in the creation of a home business. No one can
do everything alone, and the people around you are
natural, and usually willing, resources. Never forget
about the ones that you love.

The Power Of Writers For Your
Home Business

So much of the Internet is the delivery of text-based
information. No matter what type of home business
you’re running, you’re eventually going to need things
written. Now, if you’re like many people, you either
don’t like to write, aren’t particularly good at
writing, and/or don’t have the time do all of your own
writing. After all, running a home business is a
full-time job, and if you’re just starting out, you’re
probably trying to work another job as well, just to
make ends meet. So how do you produce killer e-zines,
website content and articles to get your home business
name all over the Internet?

Outsourcing

Hire a writer. While this may seem like a major
investment, it doesn’t have to be, and can save your
home business a huge amount of time and energy in the
end. Writers are everywhere on the Internet. For many
people, their entire home business is writing for
other people. But how do you actually find these
people? Once you do find a worthy writer, how do you
make sure that your home business can afford them?
After all, yours is a new home business. Your profits
are not exactly up to their potential yet.

Options

There are a whole bunch of options. First, there are a
number of sites that have writers bid on projects. All
you do is sign your home business up, post a project,
and then pay the small posting fee. Writers are then
informed of your project, and bid competitively with
one another. You can then go in and choose the writer
and bid that you feel best complements your project.
In this kind of environment, prices tend to be driven
low because of the intense auction-style bidding.
Writers constantly try to out-do one another so they
can get the job. When writers are competing for your
work, your home business wins!

Finding Writers

Another option available to you is to post your home
business’s needs on various classifieds sites. Writers
check these constantly and will get back in touch with
you with writing samples, resumes, and cost. While
this option tends not to be quite as cheap as auction
sites, you do get good responses. Writers show what
they are worth when they provide you with real
estimates, rather than trying to win in the cut-throat
auction environment. You can really get a feel for how
confident a writer is on a classified ads style site
like craigslist.com or freelanceworkexchange.com, and
you want a confident writer writing for your home
business.

Other Freelance Options

Another option available to you that you should never
discount is using local college students. Just because
they are young and relatively inexperienced doesn’t
mean that they can’t produce a quality product, and
for the price, they can’t be beat. Students are just
trying to build a portfolio of work so that they can
get a good job when they graduate, so they will work
for very little or (gasp!) no money! However, in the
interests of good faith and helping out the youth, if
your home business can afford it, try to pay them. If
you contact the writing professors at whatever
colleges are nearby, they will be able to put you in
contact with their best students.

Quantity Vs. Quality

I know that you want to find the cheapest writer
possible for your fledgling home business, but
remember. Quality is ultimately more important than
price. Your home business needs and deserves a writer
who can deliver excellent product.

Does Your Home Business Need A Website?

The short answer is a resounding “Yes”! You can’t
function in today’s business world without a website.
What decade are you doing business in, the ‘80’s?” Of
course, most people aren’t satisfied with the short
answer. Sometimes people think the short answer is
blunt and somewhat sarcastic. I wonder where they got
that idea from? So I’m here to give you the long
answer to relatively new but very important question.
No matter what kind of home business you have, a
website is mandatory. Here are a few reasons why.

YOU WANT PEOPLE TO FIND YOUR HOME
BUSINESS, RIGHT?

Like it or not, the days of people looking in the
yellow pages for phone numbers, addresses and options
are long gone. The yellow pages are quickly going the
way of the last Dodo: fried by a geyser as Manny, Sid
and Diego contemplate crossing the geyser field
(sorry, I just saw Ice Age 2). When people are looking
for a place to do their shopping, or the nearest
restaurant that has a 72 ounce steak, they are turning
more and more to the Internet, especially the younger
generations. Many people under the age of 25 not only
look first to the Internet, but never even consider
looking anywhere else. If your home business is going
to make its way into the lives of your target
audience, they have to be able to find you online.

HAVING A WEBSITE FOR YOUR HOME BUSINESS
MEANS MORE E-MAIL, LESS TIME SPENT ON THE PHONE

People who find your home business online are far more
likely to send you an e-mail from the convenient link
located somewhere on your website. This means fewer
people will be calling your home business looking for
information. This can be important for a number of
reasons.

1. E-mail allows you to think about and craft your
answer for hours, instead of being put on the spot (on
the phone). This will make your communications far
more accurate, and leave less up to ambiguity,
allowing people to get a real picture of your home
business.

2. E-mail provides an accurate record of exactly what
was discussed. No more taking rushed notes during
phone calls or forgetting what you’ve talked about.
Now all communications about and for your home
business will be available at the press of a button.

3. The most important aspect of a home business is
that it is done from home. This means that while
you’re working, your spouse or kids could conceivably
be resting. They probably will not appreciate the
constant phone calls. Think of how much happier your
life will be if your home business doesn’t distract
your family while they are resting.

Obviously, having a website for your home business
won’t allow you to get rid of your phone line. The
phone is a wonderful way for dealing with your
customers and building business relationships.
However, having e-mail as your first line of
communication allows you to really prepare yourself
for any phone calls, and coordinate your time so that
you are talking on the phone when it is convenient for
you. With as much time as a home business takes, any
time saving tools should be welcomed additions.

SENDING PEOPLE TO YOUR WEBSITE IS EASIER
THAN MAILING A FLIER

Once you have a website that really describes who and
what your home business is all about, you’ll never
have to mail out a flier or information packet again.
Just e-mail the link to your website and it should
answer most questions about what it is that you do.
The days of looking for clients through cold calls and
my mass mailings are over. Now, you can use e-mail,
message boards and chat rooms or forums to get your
website URL out and actually have clients find you.
This is just another time saving perk that having a
website offers your home business.

No business, and certainly no home business, can
operate in the world without a website. A business
without a website in today’s business world is just
bad planning. If your home business doesn’t have a
website yet, find yourself a web designer and get’er
done.
