So much of the Internet is the delivery of text-based
information. No matter what type of home business
you’re running, you’re eventually going to need things
written. Now, if you’re like many people, you either
don’t like to write, aren’t particularly good at
writing, and/or don’t have the time do all of your own
writing. After all, running a home business is a
full-time job, and if you’re just starting out, you’re
probably trying to work another job as well, just to
make ends meet. So how do you produce killer e-zines,
website content and articles to get your home business
name all over the Internet?
Outsourcing
Hire a writer. While this may seem like a major
investment, it doesn’t have to be, and can save your
home business a huge amount of time and energy in the
end. Writers are everywhere on the Internet. For many
people, their entire home business is writing for
other people. But how do you actually find these
people? Once you do find a worthy writer, how do you
make sure that your home business can afford them?
After all, yours is a new home business. Your profits
are not exactly up to their potential yet.
Options
There are a whole bunch of options. First, there are a
number of sites that have writers bid on projects. All
you do is sign your home business up, post a project,
and then pay the small posting fee. Writers are then
informed of your project, and bid competitively with
one another. You can then go in and choose the writer
and bid that you feel best complements your project.
In this kind of environment, prices tend to be driven
low because of the intense auction-style bidding.
Writers constantly try to out-do one another so they
can get the job. When writers are competing for your
work, your home business wins!
Finding Writers
Another option available to you is to post your home
business’s needs on various classifieds sites. Writers
check these constantly and will get back in touch with
you with writing samples, resumes, and cost. While
this option tends not to be quite as cheap as auction
sites, you do get good responses. Writers show what
they are worth when they provide you with real
estimates, rather than trying to win in the cut-throat
auction environment. You can really get a feel for how
confident a writer is on a classified ads style site
like craigslist.com or freelanceworkexchange.com, and
you want a confident writer writing for your home
business.
Other Freelance Options
Another option available to you that you should never
discount is using local college students. Just because
they are young and relatively inexperienced doesn’t
mean that they can’t produce a quality product, and
for the price, they can’t be beat. Students are just
trying to build a portfolio of work so that they can
get a good job when they graduate, so they will work
for very little or (gasp!) no money! However, in the
interests of good faith and helping out the youth, if
your home business can afford it, try to pay them. If
you contact the writing professors at whatever
colleges are nearby, they will be able to put you in
contact with their best students.
Quantity Vs. Quality
I know that you want to find the cheapest writer
possible for your fledgling home business, but
remember. Quality is ultimately more important than
price. Your home business needs and deserves a writer
who can deliver excellent product.
